What to eat always comes up throughout the day. There are a lot of restaurants in Puerto Jimenez, from under $5.00 up to over $50.00 a plate. Enjoy a variety of restaurants in Puerto Jimenez, from a simple meal in a tiny soda to a huge seafood platter in a venue overlooking the ocean. Other restaurants will have a local breakfast, which generally features rice and beans made into what is called Gallo Pinto. The arroz and frijoles are cooked with green and red peppers, onions, garlic, and a sauce, all topped with fresh cilantro. Your breakfast will include eggs, tortillas, fresh bread, and the special meat of the morning.

Seafood
First things first. Puerto Jimenez is a small fishing town that attracts tourists from all over the world. The number one choice for good, fresh food would be mariscos, seafood. Most restaurants will have seafood on their menu along with different food plates that will satisfy your taste buds.
Sodas
Sodas are family-owned restaurants. Most of the sodas will have typical Costa Rican food.
Breakfast.
Breakfast at a soda will always come with rice and beans, which is called Gallo Pinto. For me, it is one of my favorite things to have, including two fried eggs and fresh tortillas. This will be my 15th year living on the Osa Peninsula, and Gallo Pinto has become a part of my life. Just yesterday I made gallo Pinto for breakfast. I add extra red peppers, onions, and some garlic, then add the Lizano salsa. It will keep you full till lunch.
Lunch
Lunch at a Soda: ask for their Casado, which means married man in Spanish. Or a home-cooked meal. The Casado will come with chicken, beef, or pork. And of course, beans and rice with a vegetable. It is the lunch special. They will usually cook the meat in a sauce, or it will be grilled.
Dinner
Dinner at a soda will have a small salad, with meat, a vegetable, and of course rice and beans.

This will be my 15th year living on the Osa Peninsula. Of course, I have my favorite places to eat. I have been to all of these restaurants.
