The Selua Bistro restaurant has been open for 1 year now. This means it has made it through a slow season. There are a lot of restaurants that open and close in a year. Selua Bistro is here to stay. This will make my 15 th year living on the Osa Peninsula. Selua Bistro is one of my favorite places to eat.

Why Selua Bistro is here to stay
Having survived the slow season, Selua Bistro has become a popular place to eat. The food is delicious; the service is excellent. Every meal is more than you can eat. And I always ask for a to-go container.
The Dining experience
The food
The food is excellent local Costa Rican food, with a hint of just the right amount of spices. I have had breakfast and lunch at Selua Bistro; for breakfast, I had gallo pinto. It is rice and beans with onions, green peppers, and the key ingredient is the famous Lizano salsa mix in the rice and beans. along with two fried eggs and tortilas. Also I always have a side dish of what ever meat they have cooked in a delisous sauce. love mixing the meat into the Gallo Pinto.

For lunch, I had a deluxe hamburger with fries. The hamburger was loaded with cheese, tomatoes, onions, Bacon and a fried egg. the french fires were golden brown, crisp outside and soft in the center. I could only eat half of the hamburger; yep, another to-go container.
The Selua Bistro is owned by Mercado Verde. It is next door. It is the only organic vegetable store in Puerto Jimenez. All the produce and vegetables are as fresh as you can get. So as I write this article, Im going to go back for a huge salad.
The service
The servers are excellent. The server comes to your table with the menu and a pitcher of cold water. A cold pitcher of water is not common in Puerto Jiménez. You can ask for water an, and they usually bring you a glass of cold water, not a pitcher of water. for myself it was a added nice touch.
The chef

I met the chef the last time I was there. You can tell right away he puts love into his dishes. I asked him to send me some photos of his dishes, which he was more than happy to do. All the photos are just some of his dishes. The menu has a large selection.
The atmospher and comfort
Air conditioning
Ok I saved the best for last. The restaurant has air conditioning. There are only a couple of restaurants that have air conditioning and Selua Bistro is one of them. One thing about the Osa Peninsula is that it is hot and humid. It is pretty nice to get out of the heat and have a cool place to eat.
Inside the restaurant.

The first thing you will notice is that it is sparkling clean. The booths are very comfortable. On the walls are different oil paintings from a local artist in San Joseby.
The restaurant is off the main street of Puerto Jimenez to the right as you are walking into town. When you get to the Catholic church grounds, if you look down that intersection to the right, you will see the Mercado Verde store. Right next door is the Selua Bistro restaurant.
