Getting there
Mercado Verde is located at the 3rd intersection going up Main Street in Puerto Jimenez. When you see the Catholic church grounds across the street. Look to the right, and it will be 20 feet down that street.
Fresh vegetables
They have fresh vegetables. Most of the vegetables are organic. It is the only store that has a huge selection of vegetables. Most restaurants buy from them. I shop there once a week. for $15.00, I have enough vegetables to last a week.
Fresh herbs
So I had a garden, and my cucumbers went crazy. So I thought dill pickles were the answer. Now. Trying to find dill is an undertaking. In Costa Rica, I checked at BM grocery store; no luck. I tried pali; no luck. Then I tried Mercado Verde. At first, I could not find any dill. I asked a person who worked there. Of course, I do not know the word for dill in Spanish. I mean, how many times does the word dill come up?
Out comes the phone, I go to Google Translate, type in dill. Show the worker the Spanish word for dill. She smiles and walks away. Ok now what? She went into the back room to their walk-in cooler and came back with a huge bunch of dill. It cost me $2.00 . The dill pickles were great!.
Another time,, I was cooking Italian and needed some rosemary. They had rosemary. So for fresh, hard-to-find herbs, this is the place to go
