I asked the local community what it meant. Pura Vida at the end of the road, and why locals love Puerto Jimenez and the Osa Peninsula. They have come up with so many wonderful reasons why they love Puerto Jimenez and The Osa Peninsula.

Getting to the Osa peninsula, driving, you have to take route 245 from the Interamerican Highway Route 2. Route 245 goes all the way to Puerto Jiménez and is where the pavements stop. At the end of the road lies the small beach town of Puerto Jimenez. Route 245 goes all the way to Caraet and the start of the trail head to Corcovado park.

All of us have moments that we connect with The Osa Peninsula, call it an awakening, a presence, a moment. Just this morning, as I was having my rich, dark Costa Rica coffee sitting in my rocking chair. I realized that life was good, peaceful, slow, and stress-free.

For most people, coming to Puerto Jimenez is a destination. A place to call home base while they try to squeeze in as much as possible. Everyone is excited about visiting the Corcovado Park. Checking the birds on your list. Capturing that perfect moment on your camera. Exploring the Beaches or catching the fish that has been on your bucket list.

To the people who live in Puerto Jiménez and the Osa Peninsula, it is our home, a place we love: the nature, the people, the laid-back lifestyle. We try to embrace Pura Vida in our lives. To visitors, we are just faces that help you navigate your way through the Osa Peninsula. But if you stop for a few minutes and look around. You will see the love, people hugging each other. Young people helping their grandparents; Parents adoring their children.

Traffic comes to a halt as a sloth slowly crosses the road. No one is in a hurry. Everyone feels a love for the slow-moving sloth.

Things move more slowly on the Osa Peninsula. The mornings are for coffee, homemade gallo pinto, and reflection. All your neighbors always say good morning when you see them. They give you nicknames and accept you as part of the community. They share their food with you, and you do the same. All of us love the jungles and the ocean of the Osa Peninsula.

Due to the low population and the lack of government funds. Lots of people see that as a negative. But honestly, I think it bonds us together as neighbors, more than any other country or area I’m familiar with.

The Osa Peninsula is undeveloped. Most of the development is geared to eco-friendly establishments. Conservation is the # 1 goal on the Osa Peninsula. That being said, there is a lot of land that is being brought back to how it should be, as nature intended it to be.

Development will come, but as a green footprint. Yes, we are going to see a new marine being built. There is no way to stop development, but investors are making sure that development is good for the Osa Peninsula.
