Getting there.
Playa Negre is located right after Playa La Cuna as you are going out of Puerto Jiménez. You will come to a small dip in the highway, and you will see a road to the right. Take that road. You are in the barrio Negre. Also, there will be a small family store 20 feet after the road to the right. features a convenient road running along the shoreline.
When you get down to the beach, there will be a road to the right. The road is right along the beach and goes for a long way. There are lots of shady trees with pull-outs for your car. Pull over, find a tree for shade, and make sure it is not a coconut tree; yes, coconuts fall. It is a great beach to relax and spend some time expericeing the pura vida lifestyle.
Swimming
Swimming is great; the water is calm, and there are no strong tides. The beach has some small rocks, so water shoes are advised.
Fishing
I have fished on the beach one time. I also brought my German shepherd, Alaska, with me. There was a panga fishing, and they were catching some nice pargo, snapper. But for myself, I did not catch anything. Alaska met another dog on the beach, and they became friends and played for 30 min. So the day was not a total loss.
I did not see any wildlife while I was there, not saying that they are not there.
However, Playa Negre is best to visit at low tide because the water often reaches all the way up to the road during high tide!
