Bosque Del Cabo Rainforest Lodge sits 500 feet above sea level on the Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica.
The beginning of the Dream!
Phil Spier came to the Osa Peninsula in the late 1980s. At first, Phil wanted to farm the land and live off it. By chance, people started to show up and were amazed by the sheer beauty of the land.
The Land
When Phil first bought the land, most of it was pasture. An old Finca. He decided to let the pastures grow and plant trees. Now there are over 750 acres of natural jungle, including 8 acres of a botanical garden of native plants and flowers
A dream became a reality
After three years, Phil built three cabanas and a restaurant. Getting to this point took a lot of logistics. Finding the right crew, materials, and getting everything from point A to point B. Many times, things did not go as planned. It was always a typical day with a few twists thrown in to test a person’s sanity, then throw in some self-doubt. But Phil managed it all, and in 1990, his dream became open to the public.
In 1995, Phil met his wife, Kim. Kim came to Costa Rica to help manage and expand the lodge. Kim’s hometown was Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in Cajun country! Kim brought with her the Cajun hospitality and intertwined it with the local culture!
Raising a family in the Jungles of the Osa Peninsula
They have raised a family on the Osa Peninsula, all the children have grown up, and now they have a grandchild! They just had a family reunion this week.
Osa Peninsula is their home.
For Phil and Kim, the Osa Peninsula is their home. They have been here for over 35 years for Phil, and Kim has been here for over 31 years. You are not just visiting a lodge, you are welcomed to their home!
Accommodations
They have a total of 8 cabins now. Each one has a view of the sweet gulf sitting 500 feet below. The sunrises and the Sunsets are enough to make you believe in Magic once again. All the cabins have king-size beds, hot water, and now they have Starlink satellite internet. Waking up in the jungle, the first thing you will hear is the howler monkeys. They have one of the loudest voices in the animal kingdom.
After the howler monkeys wake you up, having a cup of coffee while watching the sunrise, you start to understand why Bosque Del Cabo Rainforest Lodge is so special. It is something dreams are made out of. Close your eyes, breathe in, breathe out, yes, it is not a dream, you smile, you do not want the moment to pass. It’s perfect!
The restaurant.
After your coffee and the sunrise, breakfast sounds like the next step in the day. You can have a typical local breakfast of fresh fruit and granola. The fruit is another awakening to your taste buds. You never had a pineapple like the fresh pineapples on the Osa peninsula. All the fruit here is delicious. They also have world glass Banana pancakes. The breakfast has several choices to choose from.
The chef is in the kitchen.
The chef is in the kitchen, and all your meals are prepared by the chef. Not only to you enjoy everything Bosque Del Cabo Rainforest Lodge has to offer, but the food is also just another example of perfection!
When you go onto their website, they have a page for food and drinks, including menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
The grounds
The grounds are incredible. There are trails throughout the grounds. As you are walking the trails you will encounter a variety of life, from a orchids with vibrant colors to the Coati running around. 25 years ago, Phil and Kim built a pond and now it is common to see Tapir enjoying the pond to cool off from the afternoon heat. There is 8 acres of a botanical garden of native plants and flowers.
There is a trail going to the beach, what is really nice at low water they have a tide pool that acts as a small slat water splash pool.
Suspended Bridge
They also built a 300-foot suspended bridge, that in itself is an engineering masterpiece!
Lazy pool day!
Feeling lazy? Make it a pool day. Bosque Del Cabo Rainforest Lodge pool is just the thing to do! Relax on the lounge chair, drink your favorite beverage and read that book you have tried to start. Nothing does the body more good than rest and relaxation.
Bosque Del Cabo Rainforest Lodge, a park within a park!
What is truly amazing is the amount of wildlife that are part of Bosque Del Cabo rainforest lodge. You will encounter many animals and birds while you are staying at the lodge. It is a park all by itself. Everyday Kim post photos of all the animals she encounters during the day. Well, it’s just amazing.
Star gazing at night
Star gazing is a must. You do not have to go far to see all the stars on a clear night. There are no city lights in the jungle!
The Staff
When you read the reviews, what comes up in every review is the wonderful staff. The staff brings Pura Vida to a true new meaning! They are always helpful and want to make your stay as wonderful as possible! From the gardener to the severs and kitchen staff let’s not forget the hard-working mantises personal. Everyone at the lodge makes sure you visit is beyond what you expected!
Solor power and hydro electricity.
The lodge is powered by solar panels and a hydro plant by the creek. The restaurant at night uses candles, which is magical. Use of hair dryers and high use of power is not recommended.

if you would like to visit Corcovado Park, which is the most biologically place on earth. Or perhaps you would like to horseback riding. Whatever you want to do it all can be handled at the lodge.
The future!
Both Phil and Kim are trying to buy more land to keep it as an ecosystem conservation project like the 750 acres that encompasses the lodge.
