Playa Sandalo is largely in the mangroves. it is a good beach to swim at, plus at high tide it is great fishing. You will see a sign saying Sandalo Beach.

Sandalo Beach . Osa Peninsula Costa Rica

This is my favorite beach. I live in Sandalo. Fishing is great on the beach. At low tide, walk all the way out into the water up to your waist. The best bait is live bait. You can see schools of live bait early in the morning. I use a cast net. If you have live bait, you will catch fish. The second best bait is salted bait. You can buy a kilo of bait right across from the BM grocery store. It a white house; knock on the door and ask for a kilo of bait. You can buy salt at BM and a container. Cut it up and salt it down.

Lures are the third option. Gallo fishing store on the beach road has lures, rods, and reels.

High tide fish the mangroves for snapper.

Snorkling

There is a Huge reef off of Sandalo Beach. I have snorkeled many times. Last time, I saw rays that were over 6 feet long, plus sea turtles. Then every fish you can imagine. It is a rainbow of colors. The best time is at low tide. Walk all the way out to the water and start swimming out and to the right.

Wild life

The best time to see wildlife is to be on the beach at 5.30 am. Sandalo Beach has howler, white-faced, and squirrel monkeys. Scarlet macaws and a lot of seabirds. Sometimes you will see coatis. Just the other day, Alaska, my dog, and I were on the beach and I saw deer tracks.

The swimming is ok, the beach is rocky

Getting there

Heading out of Puerto Jiménez, Playa, you will see a sign that says Sandalo Playa, take a right at the next dirt road.
