Shanti Wasi is located right before Cabo Matapalo on the Osa Peninsula. It sits only 50 meters away from the Golfo Dulce, the sweet gulf. Shanti Wasi is nestled in the jungle of the Osa Peninsula. Where you will only hear nature. It is a place that resonates with tranquility. https://www.shantiwasi.com/

The introduction
The first moment you enter the gates of Shanti Wasi, you can feel your body relax; your mind starts to slow down. You hear a sound in the trees; you look up, and a howler monkey is looking at you. You can smell the different scents of the flowers, the plants, and the smell of salt air.

Your Host
Your host greets you with a genuine smile. The scarlet macaws are in an almond tree, squawking as they eat the small nuts of the almond tree. These beautiful birds with their red, yellow, and blue feathers stand out against the green canopy. The only sound is nature; you smile to yourself as your host takes you over to your Cabin.

Your cabin

A hammock on the porch. Yep, going to spend some time in the hammock, you think to yourself. The cabin is clean, the bed is big. The last guest just left yesterday and left some food in the fridge; please help yourself to all of it. You open the fridge, and it has fresh fruit and vegetables. There is a picture of water; you fill a glass and drink. The water hit the spot. On top of the fridge are eggs; shouldn’t the eggs be in the fridge, you ask. No, they are not pasteurized; they are fine not being in the fridge. Wait till you taste them, your host says. Plus, right up the road is the world-famous Martine’s restaurant and bar. Every Friday night, they have a market followed by some music. Everyone shows up.
Feel free to use our yoga temple, sometimes a group comes to play music in the evenings.

The host hands you your keys. If you need anything, just let us know. Thank you. Your mind was on the pineapple in the fridge as you smiled
It all started 33 years ago with a Dream.

Jim Holcombe came to the Osa Peninsula over 33 years ago, seeking the perfect wave at Matapalo and Backwash. Like a lot of us, the Osa Peninsula put a spell on us. Jim slowly found his spot in a world that demanded only the wind and current for the perfect Wave. It did not take long for Jim to be caught up in the Osa Peninsula’s spell of magic, healing, and becoming one with the Osa Peninsula.

Every day, Jim starts his day with yoga and surfing; depending on the wave, surfing might come first. He was one of the first people who carved out a place at Cabo Matapalo. 35 years ago, Cabo Matapalo was nothing more than pasture for cows and growing crops. Now it is a thriving jungle and has been restored through conservation by almost everyone who lives there.

Jim and Tricia

In 2000, Jim met Tricia. As the story goes, they became a love story on the Osa Peninsula. Together, they thought about building something that people could come to restore their bodies and souls. Shanti Wasi was conceived in 2011. People from all over the world would come to partake in a medicine ceremony. Shanti Wasi is more than just a retreat. It is a place where you connect with nature. The mornings are quiet until the howler monkeys wake you up.
Shanti Wasi
Shanti Wasi became a reality in 2011. At this time, the medical retreat closed. Both Jim and Tricia have decided to venture into other parts of their lives.
.As you have your morning beverage, walk down to the beach and watch the sun greet another day. The salt air and the jungle give off their special smell. The Golfo dulce, or sweet gulf in English, is flat and calm, like glass. Disconnect your thoughts and take in the wonders of the Osa Peninsula. Close your eyes and dare to dream. After all, dreams come true.
Temple space

At the main house, there is a temple space for yoga. What a great way to start your day. First, the sunrise, followed by yoga.
Two cabins

At Shanti Wasi, there are two cabins that are for rent. Each cabin has a kitchen and a bathroom. Each cabin is nestled in the jungle with its own patio. Shanti Wasi is a place to go to find yourself. To relax in a jungle setting far away from the 21st century. In the afternoon, you can go for walks or lie in a hammock trying to figure out the meaning of life.
Shanti Wasi is a place that is peaceful, tranquil, and an oasis of nature. There are many words that I can describe it, but it is best to experience it in person. If you are looking for a secluded place to relax and enjoy a peaceful time, Shanti Wasi should be at the top of your list.
Whether it is just you or your family, or a business retreat, you will feel welcome from the first step onto Shanti Wasi
