There is a common misconception that the rainy season means “ruined” days. In reality, it is the most refreshing, vibrant, and intimate time to experience the Golfo Dulce and the surrounding rainforest. If you’ve been waiting for the perfect time to visit, let me tell you why the next few months are actually the best time to be here.
The World in High Definition
The first thing you notice during the Green Season Osa Peninsula is the color. “Green” doesn’t quite do it justice. It is an electric, neon, deep emerald that seems to glow from within. Without the rain, the Osa wouldn’t be the biological crown jewel that it is. The rain is the lifeblood of our flora and fauna.
When the afternoon showers arrive—usually like clockwork for about an hour—the air instantly refreshes. The dust of the dry season is washed away, and the scent of damp earth and blooming jasmine fills the air. It’s nature’s way of hitting the reset button. You’ll find yourself sitting on a porch, coffee in hand, watching the mist roll over the canopy, feeling a level of peace that’s hard to find in the busy “high season.”

Perhaps the most magical event of the rainy season happens beneath the surface of the water. The Green Season brings the humpback whales into the Golfo Dulce (the “Sweet Gulf”). These gentle giants travel thousands of miles to our protected, warm waters to give birth and raise their calves.
The Golfo Dulce is one of the only places on Earth where humpbacks from both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres visit. Seeing a mother whale teach her calf to breach against a backdrop of lush, rain-washed mountains is a soul-stirring experience that you simply cannot get during the dry months.

Starting in October, going all the way to the end of November, it rains!
It does not just rain a little; there will be times when it will rain for days, sometimes weeks, nonstop 24/7
Cabin Fever!!
If you want to come for a visit during October and November, be prepared to stay indoors. For myself, this is the time of year when I write. which takes up a lot of time, then of course, taking naps fills in even more time. I find myself reflecting on a lot of things. But the truth be told, after 7 days of non-stop rain, Cabin Fever sets in!
For myself, I need to have blue skies! When it rains for days, all I need to see is a little patch of blue between all the grays. It resets my mind.
