Playa Blanca Osa Peninsula is 22 kilomerters form Puerto Jiménez, leaving Puerto Jiménez. As you are leaving Puerto Jiménez, you will see a sign that says, La Palma and Playa Blanca. Keep driving, and you will come to a sharp, long curve to the left. Right before the curve, there will be a road going straight. Take that short road around 15 meters, and it will come to a stop sign. Go right for one kilometer, and you’ll come to Playa Blanca. Go to my map for directions
Cabinas for rent
Playa Blanca is a small community that is right on the beach. It has several Cabinas that you can rent. The cabinas will be simple: a bed, a fan, or, in some, air conditioning.
Most cabinas will have a kitchen that you can use to cook. If you like to cook, it is a great feature. There is a small pulperia a bit up the road that will have basically everything you need to cook. If you cook a lot, then take a taxi to La Palmer. There you will find a large grocery store; next door is a vegetable store, and there is also a butcher store for meat. You will save money going to La Palmer. It is only a 5-minute ride to La Palmer.
The beach community is a laid-back, peaceful spot. It is a place where time slows down; you wake up to the sound of nature and the fresh smell of the saltwater from the sweet gulf. As you have your morning coffee, take your cup and go down to the beach. The sunrise will paint the sky a rainbow of colors. The water will be flat and calm. As you look over the water, you might see a turtle popping its head out of the water. If you are lucky, you might see some dolphins and maybe even a humpback whale.
The beach
The beach is the best part of Playa Blanca. It is a shallow beach, and you can walk out for over 100 meters and still only be waist deep in water. It is one of the best beaches for swimming on the Osa Peninsula.
There is a road that goes all the way along the beach. The beach itself goes for miles in each direction. At the southern end, there is a cement dock; at one time, it was used for getting supplies to the Osa Peninsula by boat. It is a great place to fish on high tide. Further down the beach, you will come across mangroves.
Activities
If it is a water activity, then you have come to the right place. There are kayaks you can rent, paddle boards, or, if you would like, snorkeling can be arranged at the place you are staying.
Beach fishing or Panga fishing
Beach fishing is really good, and there is a new fishing store to buy a hand line or a fishing rod and reel. Several fishermen have small boats called pangas that will take you fishing inshore. For the money, it is a great way to catch some fresh fish for dinner. They know where to go to catch fish.
Tours
All the cabinas will have tours for you, from horseback riding to hiking in conservation projects. There is also a butterfly farm that raises morpho butterflies. You will enter a butterfly encampment, and the butterflies will land on you. They like the salt from your skin.

Restaurants
Restaurant Playa Blanca is right on the beach. Their fried snapper is some of the best I have eaten. They have a great menu, and the prices are very reasonable.
This restaurant has been rated by the locals as one of the best pizza places on the Osa Peninsula. A Frenchman owns the restaurant, and do not be surprised to enjoy his wonderful dishes.
This is a new seafood restaurant. The owner is a fisherman, which means the seafood is fresh and delicious.
Playa Blanca Osa Peninsula is a great place to relax and get away from the crowds. You can walk around at night and go to your favorite restaurant. After dinner, walk to the beach to stargaze. There is little light pollution at Playa Blanca.
If I want a beach restaurant and fried snapper, it is my go-to place to eat.
