Matapalo Osa Peninsula
Matapalo , Is a community on the way to Carate . There are several lodges and retreats located in Matapalo. The community does not have public electricity. Most all the retreats and hotels have solor systems, plus back up generators. If you want to escape from the rat race ,relax in a hammock, take a swim in the sweet gulf and have your host have lunch ready for you, you have found another piece of Paradise.
Wild Life
The wild life is everywhere. You are living in their world. It is not uncommon to see monkeys, ant eaters, Macaws, sloths and if your lucky maybe a wild cat.
Pura Vida life style
It is a laid back nature retreat that melts away your tension from life. Enjoy the sunrise with a fresh cup of Costa Rica coffee . Most retreats will offer food and some have common kitchens you can use. The price range is in the middle range to very expensive , but you only live once.
Lots of lodges cater to health, yoga, medatation, organic foods and realxing atmosphere.
Getting there
Matapalo is also a great day trip. You can get there by a colectivo or hire a privite transportation. If you have your own car you can drive. To get to Matapalo, drive down main street Puerto Jimenez , when you get to BM ,food store, you will come to a stop sign, take a right and stay on the road. It takes around an hour to get to Matapalo. As you are driving you will go over several bridges. You will past a bar on the left hand side called Martinas.
Once you go past Maritinas you will go over a bridge, after the bridge you will go up a small hill, another 50 meters you will see a bus stop. Well the bus stop is a bench with a metal roof . Another 20 meters there will be a road to the left, take the road it will go down a small hill ,then there will be a road to the right, take the road and it will be the start of Mataplo.
The road goes all the way out to a beach called the back wash. The back wash has a great wave to surf, people from all over the world come to the back wash to surf.
Firday night Maritinas
Martinas, World famous! On Friday nights all the locals , expats , well just about everyone shows up. They have a market where you can buy locally made products. They will have some sort of music ,either live music or a DJ. It is a must do on your bucket list.
