Getting to the Osa Peninsula Costa Rica! There are a couple of ways to get to the Osa penisula . Rent a car when you fly into San jose and drive. The main highway to get to Puerto Jimenez is right by the airport . The highway will take you on a toll road (cheap). It will take you along the pacific coast . You will get off the highway when you see signs for Jaco , there will be a turnaround after the exit ramp , go right and you are on your way. The coast highway is wonderful. I always stop at a seafood restaurant, right before Jaco , have lunch and get back on the road . From San jose to puerto jimenez is around a 4 hr drive, depending on weather and trafic.

The bus ! The terminal for the bus going to Puerto Jimenez in San Jose Station Name: Terminal de Buses del Sur / Musoc / Blanco Lobo.
Location: South side of Plaza González Víquez, San José.

Typical Schedule: Bus leaves San jose at 12 pm (noon)
Duration: 7-8 hours.
Recommendations: Buy tickets in advance or arrive early to secure a seat, especially during the high season. Bus tickets are under $20.00 US
Bus leaving Puerto Jimenez to San Jose leaves the bus station at 5am. You can buy your ticket a day before and wait on the side of the road and wave the bus down when you see it leaving puerto Jimenez. The puerto Jimenez bus stop is on the first road to the right coming into Puerto Jimenez , go pass pali, then the INS building there will be a road, alley to right after the INS building take the right into the road , ally walk 30 feet and to the left you will see the bus office . Flying into Puerto Jimenez
Then there is flying form San Jose to Puerto Jimenez . It is a 35 min flight unless there are other towns that they fly into first. Usually they might add one other town , so expect up to 55 min. Sansa Air lines Flys into Puerto Jimenez. There are also privited Charter comapnies that will fly into Puerto jimenez ,last time I checked it was $1300.00 US. From the iternational airport in San Jose , when you go thru imergration and baggage security, you will walk out side . From there start walking to the left, once your on the street , look to the left and you will see the Domestic terminal to the left. It is less that a 5 min walk

local bus, colectivos and taxis
Getting around Puerto Jimenez. You can hire a taxi , take a colectivo( illegally car or van ) they are cheap, you will not get in trouble if the police pull over the Driver , The driver on the other hand ,well his day just got a lot worse. Local bus, for less than $4.00 you can go from Puerto Jimenez all the way out of town to La palma and points in between. There are to colectivos vans , one goes all the way out to Carate beach the start of the corcovado trail head and all points in between. The second van goes from Puerto jimenez to Dos Brazos , a small town at the head of the tiger river, nice day trip.
The local bus stops in front of of the clothing store . It is on main road in town , from the soccer field you will pass the police station , then the bakery, the family mart and the court house all on the right hand side waliking into the town. right after the court house,cross the street and you are at the local bus stop. If the bus is not there ,more than not there will be a colectivo you can get a ride with . below is the bus schedual .

The colectivo van going to Dos Brazos leaves puerto Jimenez at the gas station. to get to the gas station start on main street and walk all the way down the street until you reach BM , across the street is the gas station.

Colectivo cars , they do not have a taxi permits. They are very cheap to use, Going into Puerto Jimenez ,you just have to wait at a bus stop. A car will drive up and flash it lights indicating it is a colectivo, wave and it will stop to pick you up. Colectivos in town will be located at the local bus stop. The local bus stop is on main street pass the bakery, family mart ,then the court house. you will be at a cross street , go across the street and you are at the local bus stop. Colectivos will be parked, or will drive by saying colectivo or the town they will be going too.

Colectivo van going to Carette
The colectivo Van going to Carette , Corcavado park and points in between is located on the first road to the right coming into town, you will go pass Pali. Another 30 meters you will be at the bus stop for the collective going all the way out to Corcovado park . Across the street is a hardware store gruopo materials. during high season the van goes everyday, low season it is not everyday. There is the colectivo Soda that you can wait for the van. their food is very good and the prices are budget freindly. I had a chesse buger and fries and a beer for under $7.00 US
Ferry going to Golfito
The Ferry to Golfito is located on the new dock that was just built. Best way to get there is the long way around at this time. A bridge on the beach road collapsed . Now you have to go all the way into town and take a left down a side street , then a right over the bridge around the airport to the beach take a left and you will come to the new dock. They are fixing the bridge now, So when it is done you can take the beach road along side the soccor field , go across the new bridge and walk another 100 metters and you will see the new dock. Car Rentals in Puerto Jimenez. There is only one Car Rental in Puerto Jimenez . It is located close to the airport. From the airport follow the road going along the run way and towards the beach, go 100 meters and it will be on the left hand side.
