Getting there
As you’re driving up town in Puerto Jiménez, you will come to an intersection. BM grocery store will be there. Right across the street, you will see the gas station. Turn right at the intersection. That road leads to Carate Beach. You will be on the road for a while. On the left hand side you will see a sign saying Pelican House. That will be road#1. The next road you see on the left hand side will be Playa Colorado.
The beach

As you are driving down the road to the beach, once you see the beach, park your car, and walk to the beach. On the right-hand side, there will be a cluster of almond trees. Scarlet Macaws will be there.
Just stand there and don’t look at them for 5 min. The macaws will realize you are not a threat, and then you can get a little closer.
One time it took me over 15 min to finally sit right under the almond trees as the Scarlet Macaws ate the almonds. There had to be 10 pairs of scarlet Macaws. Yes Magical!
Because this sandy beach is best at low tide, try to time your visit accordingly.
Swimming
The beach is not protected very well. Every time I go there there is a big swell coming onto the beach. If it is calm, you might get to go swimming. It is a sandy and pebbly beach, and water shoes are recommended.
Wildlife

Scarlet macaws that are a only a few feet away from you.
