Getting there
As you’re driving through town you will come to an intersection. BM grocery store will be on the right. Across the street will be the gas station. Take a right at that intersection. The road will go all the way out to Carate Beach.
When you see a sign saying ‘Pelican House’ s on the left-hand side. After turning left, the road leads directly to the shore, though you will need to cross a small quebrada (creek). While the water is usually only about twelve inches deep, it can rise after heavy rain.
When you arrive at the beach, follow the road to the left for about 100 meters until it ends. This spot places you right between a refreshing river and the shaded coastline, making it one of the most versatile Osa Peninsula beaches for a day trip. In addition to dipping in the river to cool off, you’ll find that beach fishing is excellent here on the right days.”
The beach

You can park your car close to the beach, so it is in the shade. There is a little trail about 20 feet. To the right of the trail are some shade trees. This is one of my favorite beaches to go to. To the left, there is a small creek that you can dip in to cool off. The view under the shade is all ocean. I have spent many a morning on this beach with my German shepherd, Alaska.
Low tide
At low tide, you can walk to the left and the beach will go for miles. Great beach for hiking.
Fishing

Fishing is off the charts good. I use my cast net to catch live bait in the creek. I have caught a nice roaster fish. And lots of snapper. You have to get past the breakwater, which can be tricky. There are a lot of boulders and holes. More than once, I have gone under. But it is worth it.
There is a big breakwater, and swimming is hard to do if you are not a strong swimmer. If you go to the left, the next beach over is better for swimming.
There is not a lot of wildlife. O,nce a hawk flew right next to me. Lots of lizards, sometimes a scarlet macaw
