Blue Morphos’
The Blue Morphos of the Osa Peninsula are the hardest thing to photograph in Costa Rica.
I first saw a blue morpho 20 years ago in Costa Rica on the Osa Peninsula. 14 years later, after chasing the blue morpho through the jungles of Costa Rica, I finally got a photograph of a blue morpho with its wings open.
Where to find the blue morpho.
They love the shady underside of the canopy. You will be walking, and out of the corner of your eye, you see a bright neon blue. It is just a flash, looking in the direction of the flash, a blue morpho is flying around, every time they open their wings, another neon flash of blue.
How to photograph the blue Morpho.
Set your camera settings to continuous shooting mode, and set your focus meter to spot focus. After you do that, be ready to take as many photos as you can. You will end up chasing them through the jungle. What a great way to spend time, chasing a blue morpho through the jungle. I have taken 1000 photos of the elusive blue Morpho and finally got one photograph that is good. Happy shooting, may you capture a Blue morpho in the jungles of the Osa Peninsula.
Magical powers from the Blue Morpho
Some say it has magical powers, bringing good fortune. When you see one flying towards you, it is a sign that good things will come into your life
Close your eyes, breathe in, breathe out, you just experienced a little magic in the jungles of the Osa Peninsula.
One of Costa Rica’s national symbols
Hopefully, it won’t take you 14 years to capture one with its wings open, but it is so much fun chasing them through the jungle. Remember, if you see one, make a wish.
