The flora of the Osa Peninsula is an important part of the ecosystem of the Osa Peninsula.

If it weren’t for the flora of the Osa Peninsula, there would be no animals or, for that matter, people.
Osa Peninsula is very fragile, making changes in the ecosystem change the whole of the Osa Peninsula.
Destroying the flora causes a huge impact.
The ecosystem is very fragile. I have seen big resorts clear-cut all their land, then when it rains, it causes an erosion problem. Keeping the land with all the flora intact will keep the Osa Peninsula healthy.

The flowers of the Osa Peninsula
The flowers of the Osa Peninsula also play an important role in the peninsula’s health. Flowers provide food for the insects and birds of the Osa Peninsula. Once again, without the flowers, the Osa Peninsula would suffer

The Giants of the Jungle
Osa is home to some of the tallest trees in Central America. Massive Ceiba trees act like skyscrapers, with huge buttress roots that anchor them deep into the earth. You might also spot the Garlic Tree (Ajo), easily identified by its smooth reddish bark and distinct scent.
Corteza Amarilla Trees
Cortexa Amarilla trees, when they are blooming, are easy to spot. They have a yellow flower that only lasts for a few days. You will see them from a distance, huge yellow flowers against a green jungle background. By boat, you can look at the mountains and see these beautiful trees.

Once again, the Osa Peninsula shows its magic. Be sure to stop and take some photos of these beautiful trees because the flowers only last for a few days.

Every morning, I wake up, have my coffee on my porch, and look over at the field across the street. A massive, huge tree is in the field. I started to think about how old it was.
Looking at the tree, it has to be hundreds of years old. My mind goes back to when it was just starting its life. I imagine the Osa Peninsula at that time.
Hundreds of years ago, on the Osa Peninsula, there were clans, groups of people who would live in different parts of the Osa Peninsula. Some clans would live by the ocean, others would live on the flat land, and then other clans would live in the mountains.
It inspired me to write a book, starting 200 years ago on the Osa Peninsula. The book will be on Amazon in October 2026
Jimenez Family: A Costa Rica Christmas, coming out in October 2026 on Amazon.
The Perfume Tree
You will be walking, and you smell a sweet perfume scent; you look up, and it is coming from a tree called Cananga odorata, the common name is Perfume Tree. Chanel perfume is made from the flowers of the tree. photo coming soon.
Mangroves of the Osa Peninsula
Mangroves stop erosion and absorb a huge amount of carbon dioxide, along with providing breeding and habitat for fish
